3rd Place in Mixed Tour 2

Monday 21 May 2007

So Mixed Tour 2 finally happened after an unfortunate break in the middle. As usual this will be the round up which hopefully reminds those who were there what happened and made those who weren't jealous!

Game 1: Brighton 1
So first game of the weekend and we again had to stand in a circle and do names!! We had a couple of debuts at this tournament for Lianne, Layne, Cesca, Owain, Dale, Josh, Matt H. Once this was done we got down to the nitty gritty. I think we can say we won this comfortably, we had to play heads up and i think we went away to win 14-8. One thing of note was Cesca ability to catch - more on this later...

Game 2: IF
I think from this we can take away never let Grayson near a schedule. Although this was a game of two pitches sadly it wasn't of two halves. We went into the game with high hopes of an 'upset' sadly thats all they were - hopes. We all agreed that we played really badly and didn't turn up which was a shame. However comedy moment of the weekend was Jo nailing barnard in a bid with him ending up on the ground looking bemused and Jo trotting off!! Josh personal highlight was standing next to Cesca as she layed out between two people caught the disc for the score, got trod on, stood up shook her head and smirked.

Game 3: High Altitude
A bit of a non event really. Although effectively our quarter they didn't have the strength in depth that they had a tour 1 to make it much of a game. We won comfortably and sealed our place in the semi, despite Caesars best efforts to cost us the game with some basically feeble defence.

Semi Final: Boom
What a disappointment, we went into this feeling good after a late start. We had the players, we had the skills, sadly the latter didn't turn up. CB summed it up aptly by saying "how come we seem to be so good throwing to their guts but not ours?!". A similar story to IF in that we didn't show them what we could do.

3v4: Ping
A repeat of the tour 1 final games. However this time it didn't need a monstrous comeback to win. We started great and built a healthy lead despite going down to 5 women with the loss of Cesca to a nasty looking ankle injury. Slowly but surely Graysons prediction of "a team with this number of good players can't play this crap all game" came true and they strarted to reel us back in. We ended up in sudden death again but this time with the offence and a lovely huck from CB to Matt H sealed a repeat final position for tour 2.

We all had our moments of greatness and lameness and I think it does bode well for an upset at the next tour.

MVP - Cesca - I think it was because at some point she bailed us all out with a stupidly good grabs which put the "stars" of our team to shame!!
