At the weekend the 2007 Mixed Tour came to a close in Nottingham. A very hot weekend was a nice surprise after the reports of doom and gloom weather wise and the band of legends turned up to do the obligatory roll call of names to introduce the new players. Debuts at this tournament were for Pitchler, Clo, Izy and Katie...
Game 1: BAF
Although it might of been amusing to lose this just to see the look on Davs
face we decided it wasn't that funny and decided we would try and beat them. This we did although not as
comfortably as we hoped. Final score was 15-10 i think but we never
really got that pressured.
Game 2: Brighton 1
Brighton turned up with a full strength squad at this mixed tour hoping to do damage and get a high finish. The way we started going 4-0 down it looked like they probably would. Some grit and determination and lots of calls saw the half surprisingly finish 8-7 to them. However the fightback was short lived and we soon ended up 11-7 down... Everyone started to feel a
bit of a chump but then a monster point and Beavan calling travel on the
same throw 4 times (3 of which had resulted in a score and the fourth was
blocked by Lianne) saw Brightons heads drop we got a few more D's and ended
up in sudden death, game to 14. Pitchler pulled out an almighty block on Roach and Chevron sent it in for the win. Strange game - lots of calls nice speeches though :O)
Game 3: Strange Blue
Traded first few points and then we realised they didn't actually break the
force. After annoying Beavan for a good 20minutes by not responding to this
we finally did shut down the open side and ran out comfortable winner 15-7 i
think. However we had lost Matt Hodgson & Laura to injury and CB due to
chaffing and he wasn't willing to lube up using a girls bum vaseline (and
before you ask thats a tube of vaseline she used on her bum not some
kind of secretion issue)...
Semi: Thudering Herd
I think this was the best Chevron played all tour. We won 15-5 and we were
awesome. The number of blocks on their endzone line was embarrassing and it
never felt like a semi. Everyone played well and we finally acquired the
killer instinct!
Final: Rampant
After the disappointment at Tour 2 of rolling over in the semi to Boom we
finally gave them the game we knew we could. The final was definately there
to be taken and to be fair we're not sure how they won (neither do they).
It was traded up until 12-12 and then they finally won 15-13. Shame we
didn't have the killer instinct when we were up after half but alas wasn't
to be. I think everyone came away disappointed but happy with the way we'd
represented the brand.
So in the final tour we have took 2nd and we even got silverware!!! Due to IF and Ping not showing up this means that in our first season we finished second on the UK Mixed Tour. Not bad at all really!
Thanks to all those who have played for us and watch this space as we make preperations for more domination next season!!
